Soumia Bardhan will facilitate a ThinqStudio Mixed Venue Community of Practice for Faculty & Students.
Our educational institutions are microcosms of society, where being extroverted, active, and outgoing are considered the norm and are generally seen as marks of happiness, confidence, and leadership. However, for learners and instructors who are more inclined toward quiet, trying to fit in may be exhausting. Modern education, and indeed modern life, offer little understanding of—or encouragement for—these individuals’ need for solitude and the pedagogical value it can have for them. The psychological impact of dismissing quiet can be serious. This CoP will explore how to encourage greater acceptance and even celebration of quiet virtues in higher education while we learn about the pedagogical dynamics of introversion in higher education.
We will meet on four Wednesdays, times and venues below:
November 6 (online 2:00-3:15) Understanding Introversion and Intellectual Quietness
November 13 (online 2:00-3:15) Practical Strategies for Teaching and Learning
November 20 (online 2:00-3:15) Overcoming Challenges and Fostering Inclusion
December 4 (3rd floor of the Learning Commons 12:00-1:15) Closing Session: Reflection and Action Planning Lunch will be served for an in-person grand finale!
